Next Project: A Vision Board

27 Oct

For unit 3 I want my students to make vision boards. This is the task:

A Vision board is created by a student to illustrate what she wants in the future. A vision board is a personal collection of an individual’s desires and no restrictions are placed on the images or words displayed on the board.

You will need to look through magazines and online to find pictures and words that represent your goals. You may draw pictures or write words to represent your goals.

It is recommended that you paste your name in the center of your board.

Paste the pictures and words on the vision board. Pictures may overlap, words can be pasted on top of images or pictures can be in a distinct order. An organized collage is the goal.

At the back of the board, you will need to describe the items on your board, explaining their meaning to you.

This is my students’ second project. The class was divided into groups. Each group was given a task as you will see in the video below. Students were more comfortable speaking this time around. Confidence, creativity ,organization sills and group work ethics were among my goals going a head with this project. The principle , a math teacher and the student advisory were among the attendee. Their feedback was very positive.

Moments Like These

16 Oct

There is always a moment when something happens in the classroom that makes you realize why you teach! Sometimes, after dealing with colleagues, administration, parents, people who want to take away collective bargaining, you get fed up, and you forget.  But every once in a while, it happens.  That moment when you choke up, and say, “This is why.”  Now, what happens may be a small thing to others, they don’t understand your experience. Bur for you it’s EVERYTHING.

Picture of the week

Denying your own creativity is like denying you’re a human being. We’re all limitlessly creative, but only to the extent that we realize that we create our own limits with the way we think. If you tell yourself you’re not creative, it becomes true. So Stop that and allow your true potentials and creativity to take over every once and a while .

Student Project : Changes in Saudi Arabia

6 Oct

This is 1st grade Secondary students project ( Major Changes in Saudi Arabia ) . Students used the chart to write what they knew about major changes in the country. Then exchanged the papers and compared notes. Class was divided into groups to prepare a PowerPoint presentation or a poster. It was a great experience. Students really enjoyed it. It broke the psychological barrier and the fear of speaking English. I got a positive feedback from one particular student who wanted to transfer from the school because she could not understand me nor speak English. She did her best today and was almost in tears. Its moments like this that makes all the difference and reminds me what a powerful job teaching is.
